Program, reception to bid farewell to Hanson today

IU will celebrate Provost Karen Hanson’s contributions to the University with a farewell program and reception at 4 p.m. today in the IU Auditorium.

Hanson, who has served as the University’s provost and executive vice president since 2007, will begin her term as senior vice president for academic affairs and provost of the University of Minnesota on Feb. 1.

Jacobs School of Music Dean Gwyn Richards will serve as the program’s master of ceremonies.

The program will consist of music provided by Jacobs School of Music faculty, as well as speakers and video from “different parts of the University, different segments of the University that had the opportunity to work with the provost,” Richards said.

“We encourage everyone to come, to take time out of their busy first weeks, to bid farewell to one who has meant so much to the University,” he said.

Until a new provost and vice president is selected by the University, Lauren Robel, dean of the Maurer School of Law, will serve as the interim provost.

Hanson’s farewell program is open to the public. RSVPs, which are encouraged but not necessary, can be sent to prersvp@indiana.edu.

Before becoming provost and vice president, Hanson served as the dean of the Hutton Honors College and chair and professor of the Department of Philosophy in the College of Arts and Sciences.
