A routine bar check by three Bloomington Police Department officers and a sergeant turned into a fight and arrest at about 2 a.m. Tuesday, Sgt. Steve Kellams said.
When officers entered Kilroy’s on Kirkwood, they planned to ensure that minors hadn’t been let into the bar, Kellams said.
Instead, they found Corey Bowles, 22, and another individual fighting.
After Lovan and Weisheit intervened, Bowles allegedly shoved officer Zach Weisheit, Kellams said.
“One of the people in the fight immediately began fighting the officers,” Kellams said.
Hasler and Connolly moved to help the two officers, and Hasler used pepper spray on Bowles, who allegedly continued to kick, shove and verbally abuse the officers.
Officers forced Bowles to the ground to arrest him for assault of a police officer, public intoxication and simple assault.
Bowles was transported to the Bloomington Hospital to be checked for blood alcohol content and damage from the pepper spray before being taken to the Monroe County Jail.
