After more than 40 years in public service and leadership positions, Gilbert Holmes will retire March 31 from his current position as American Civil Liberties Union of Indiana executive director. Holmes has been the executive director for the past three years.
The Board of Directors executive committee will name an interim director and conduct a national search for a replacement.
“Under Gil’s outstanding leadership, the ACLU of Indiana has provided top-notch legal services to the most vulnerable residents of our state, while expanding the organization’s
fundraising and outreach capabilities,” Board President Catherine Gibson said in a press release. “Gil has been a dynamic and effective ambassador for our organization and a strong voice for justice in our community.”
Before being named executive director in 2008, Holmes was the president and CEO of the Indianapolis Transportation Corporation. Holmes received a Public Interest Law Award from the Equal Justice Works Society of the IU Maurer School of Law in 2011.
Holmes graduated from Southern Illinois University in 1975 with a degree in Organizational Management.
