There were 15 car collisions between 7:30 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. Saturday in Bloomington amid freezing rain, said Lt. Faron Lake of the Bloomington Police Department.
There were no injuries from these accidents, Lake said, though there was some property damage.
He said the department usually sees about six accidents in a similar amount of time in normal driving conditions.
There were no areas in which the accidents were particularly bad, Lake said, but there were a few scattered across East and West 3rd St.
He said the 15 logged accidents were cars hitting one another, and there were probably more cars that slid off the road. These were not logged, but police responded to the calls.
"I would say from working last night, we had five when I left," Lake said. "I'd say night shift doubled."
