Tulip Tree undergoes construction

Tulip Tree

Tulip Tree Apartments is getting a makeover.

The first phase ended in August, and the second phase is scheduled to be completed in August 2012.

This includes upgrading all building safety and security systems, all electrical and building lighting systems, plumbing and waste systems, newly renovated kitchens and bathrooms.

The building’s exterior is also being renovated, including new windows.

“Tulip Tree building was over 45 years old without any previous major renovations,” said Patrick Connor, executive director of Residential Programs and Services. “It is a key apartment housing facility for the campus and its students. This extensive work will provide quality housing location for many years to come.”

Rent will remain the same since this is not a significant change in the type of accommodation, Connor said.

Aside from Tulip Tree, there are four other projects in campus housing. Phase Two of the Briscoe Quad renovation is in progress and Phase One was completed before move-in day.

A new southeast apartment building is currently under construction, and a new dining center in Forest Quad and a new residence hall at location to be determined are in the design stage and plan to open in August 2013, Connor said.

RPS develops specific, five-year plans to address significant changes in residence halls. RPS has a 20-year plan for residential and dining facilities, Connor said.
