Bloomington roommates report residential entry

Bloomington police are investigating a residential entry that has left the victims wondering if they were the intended targets.

The incident occurred at about 2 a.m. Wednesday in the 400 block of East 16th Street as the residents were heading to bed, said Sgt. Jeff Canada of the Bloomington Police Department.

One roommate had finished working on homework in the living area and was exiting the room when he heard the door being kicked in, Canada said. Another resident said he heard the commotion from his bedroom as the first roommate ran up the stairs.

Both of these residents said they heard someone swear and make a racial slur as the suspects entered the house.

“Myself and none of my roommates are black,” one victim said. “They may have been targeting the wrong house.”

The suspects then kicked over a TV, smashed an aquarium and moved a couch. Then, they suddenly left.

“They took off right away,” the victim said. “Like they maybe realized they had the wrong house.”

The residents locked themselves in a bedroom and called 911. Nothing was taken from the home, Canada said.

The victims described the suspects as two white males in their early twenties. Both were about 6 feet tall.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the BPD at 812-339-4477.
