The search for a missing spelunker in southern Indiana has been suspended, according to a press release from the Department of Natural Resources.
Kevin Eve, 25, of Georgetown, Ind., was last seen Oct. 1, and his car was found two days later in a forest near the Ohio River town of Leavenworth, Ind.
Eve was known to explore the caves in the area, and authorities think he might have gone missing in one of them.
After 23 days of searching, the DNR announced that it was suspending the search.
“The area where Eve’s car was located has been exhausted, producing little evidence to his whereabouts,” Conservation Officer Cora Showalter said in a press release. “The outlying areas have been covered, producing no evidence of Eve.
“The caves in the area have been extensively searched, especially the caves he was known to explore and known to be his favorite places to go.”
Foul play is not suspected, authorities said.
Authorities believe that Eve could still be in the area, and they have searched the area several times.
Eve’s mother told authorities that, while she is concerned for her son, she is confident that he will be okay because he was trained in survival methods while in the army.
Eve is a veteran of the War in Iraq.
