14-year-old arrested for pulling knife on 12-year-old

A 14-year-old Bloomington boy was arrested last Thursday for attempted burglary after allegedly pulling a knife on a 12-year-old and demanding money.

Bloomington Police Department Sgt. Jeff Canada said the victim was walking on 14th Street after school last Wednesday. Both the victim and suspect attend Tri-North Middle School. The suspect then allegedly approached the victim and pulled a folding knife from his pocket. The victim did not give the suspect any money, a vice principal at the middle school told the BPD.

During the altercation, Canada said the victim’s older brother exited a school bus and noticed the alleged altercation and intervened.

Canada said a school bus driver overheard students talking about the incident on the bus Thursday morning. The bus driver then informed the vice principal about the incident.

In a conversation with the vice principal, Canada said the suspect admitted to confronting the victim after school Wednesday.

On Thursday morning, BPD officers responded to the middle school and arrested the suspect. He was transported to the Monroe County Jail before being transported to the Southwest Indiana Regional Youth Village in Vincennes.

While there were two other children with the suspect who witnessed the incident, Canada said they did not engage in criminal activity.
