121 law schools to be on campus for fair

Today’s Law Day in Alumni Hall at the Indiana Memorial Union will be the largest event of its kind in the nation for the seventh straight year.

Law Day is a fair for students interested in attending law school to receive information, said Mac Francis, director of IU Health Professions and Prelaw Center.

“It’s actually a good way for applicants to expand their horizons and find out more about schools that might fit them,” Francis said.

This year, representatives of 121 of the nation’s roughly 200 law schools will be present, making it the largest law fair in the United States, Francis said.

“It’s really rare that a college has an event of this size, if they have one at all,” he said.
Each year the Midwest Association of Pre-Law Advisors organizes a Law School
Caravan.

This event tries to make it easier for representatives to attend events like this at four Big Ten universities in a week, he said.

This year’s Big Ten tour includes stops at IU, the University of Illinois, the University of Iowa and the University of Wisconsin.

More law schools are participating in IU’s Law Day than any other Big Ten school.
IU’s event is expecting to have the largest student turnout in the conference.

Francis said in an email that he thinks this is the reason representatives keep coming back to southern Indiana.

Last year’s turnout was about 750 attendees.

Students receive one-on-one contact with those in charge of admitting students to law schools.

With recruiters on-site, the event is good for both students and law schools, Francis said.

“It’s really a fun day,” Francis said. “The atmosphere is really informative and laid back.”
