Rematches on schedule for weekend at home

With a 2-0 start and two games on the docket this weekend, the IU field hockey team’s mentality is focused on every match and taking the season day by day, Coach Amy Robertson said.

“One of our big goals this year is to play one game at a time, so we’re not even thinking about the game we have Sunday,” Robertson said. “The only game we’re focused on, the only game we’re setting goals toward, is the game against Ball State we play on Saturday.”

The team toppled the Cardinals 11-2 two weeks ago in a scrimmage, but Robertson has still worked to improve aspects of the team before the regular-season rematch with Ball State.

“The last couple practices, we’ve hit them with a lot of things we haven’t executed quite as well, but that’s sort of what happens every single year,” Robertson said. “This isn’t always a week I look forward to, but we’ve learned things, and we’re really looking forward to showing what we’ve learned.”

On Sunday, IU will take on the Missouri State Bears, whom they defeated 4-1 early last season.

“We cannot look over any team, and we expect good games out of both of those,” Robertson said. “(It’s) hopefully an opportunity to grow and see what we can do.”
