Around the region

The news doesn’t stop once you leave city limits. Here’s what’s happening elsewhere in the region.

An Evansville man is suing the city, alleging that police made him leave the Mesker Park Zoo after he refused to cover a gun he was carrying on his hip.

The incident spawns from a new Indiana law that only allows local governments to ban firearms from buildings that contain courtrooms. They are no longer allowed to ban guns from locations such as libraries, parks and zoos.

City officials maintain that the man was disturbing the peace and the presence of the gun was scaring children.

Several IHOP locations in Ohio and Indiana were raided Tuesday by the FBI, local police, the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency and Homeland Security.

Seven of the restaurants are reportedly under investigation, all of which are owned by the same franchisee.

The investigation is not believed to be related to terrorism but may be related to money laundering or undocumented workers.

An Illinois teenager who was shot in the back of the head last week went to a friend’s house to attempt to clean the wound himself rather than to the hospital.

The Belleville News-Democrat reported that the shooting happened while the teen was with some friends.

An armed suspect reportedly approached them and began counting down before firing. The friend’s mother took the teen to the hospital.
