A Unionville man was killed early Tuesday in a motorcycle accident at the intersection of Old State Road 37 and Dunn Street.
Robert Lemble, 31, was riding north on Old 37 when he lost control of his motorcycle and crashed into a utility pole, Bloomington Police Department Sgt. Jeff Canada said.
A witness told police he was passed by a motorcycle moments before Lemble’s accident.
Travelling at high speeds, the motorcycle passed the witness’s car despite the double yellow line and drove over a hill, Canada said.
When the driver approached the intersection of Old 37 and Dunn, he saw the wreckage of Lemble’s 2006 blue Honda RS in a ditch. Lemble lay unconscious next to the utility pole he struck.
“We don’t think alcohol was involved. However, speed was a factor in the accident,” Canada said.
BPD was contacted at 2:04 a.m. by the car’s driver. Bloomington Township Emergency Unit One responded to the scene of the accident.
Lemble was transported to IU Health Bloomington Hospital emergency room and then airlifted to IU Health Methodist Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
