Bloomington volunteer opportunities

As the new school year approaches, there are many opportunities to balance class with a little bit of volunteer work.

Hillbilly Haiku
Sept. 2
The Hillbilly Haiku Americana Music Series is an outdoor concert presented by Upland Brewery. All proceeds from ticket, food and beverage sales will benefit the Sycamore Land Trust. Volunteers are needed for three-hour shifts in the evening and two-hour shifts the following day for clean-up.

All volunteers receive free admission, food and beverages. Volunteering activities will vary, but duties will include serving food and running work stations.

Therapeutic riding program training — Sept. 7, 17
People and Animal Learning Services is offering training sessions for people interested in volunteering for its therapeutic riding program.
 
Volunteers help children and adults with disabilities learn to ride horses. The training sessions are Sept. 7 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. and Sept. 17 from 1 to 4 p.m.

B-line Trail ribbon-cutting — Sept. 8

Volunteers are needed for the B-Line Trail ribbon-cutting festivities Sept. 8.

Volunteers will help children decorate bikes, fit bike helmets, run an interactive station along the parade route and lead cyclists and walkers down the trail to the ceremony location.

Bloomingfoods 5k Breakaway — Sept. 10

Volunteers are needed to help organizers during the Bloomingfoods 5K Breakaway, which benefits the Community Kitchen and Middle Way House. Volunteers are needed from 7 to 10:30 a.m.
