Bloomington man arrested for fracturing fiancee’s jaw

A Bloomington man was arrested Friday after allegedly hitting his fiancée, breaking some of her teeth and fracturing her jaw.

James Douglas, 60, was charged with battery resulting in serious injury, a C felony, and domestic battery, a B felony due to the crime taking place in front of the victim’s 9-year-old son, Sgt. Jeff Canada of the Bloomington Police Department said.

Police responded to a call by the victim, 47, around 4:30 a.m., Canada said. Police found her inside a residence in the 1500 block of Andrew Circle.

She was bleeding from the chin and had trouble speaking coherently.

“He did this to me,” the officers were able to make out.

The officers sat the woman down, and eventually she was able to tell them that Douglas was the person who hurt her.

Officers found Douglas inside the residence, but he was unwilling to speak with them.

The victim told the officers that the couple had been arguing about Douglas’s drinking and stress from work.

In the bathroom, he grabbed her arms and pushed her, she told the officers. After that, she said she only recalls waking up bleeding from the mouth, Canada said.

The victim was transported to the IU Health Bloomington Hospital and her son was left in the care of a family member.
