Imagine waking up in a hospital bed four days after you arrive in a foreign country on Thanksgiving with no identity.
Sounds horrible, right?
Now, imagine that same scenario followed by a mute doctor inexplicably following you, drawn-out car chase scenes and a stone-cold woman who pretends not to be your wife.
In this action/thriller/”Bourne Identity” rip-off by director Jaume Collet-Serra, the turn out is just as bad.
As if the plot couldn’t be summarized by watching the preview or the first five minutes, “Unknown” traces Dr. Martin Harris (Liam Neeson), who has just arrived for a first-time visit in Berlin with his stuffy wife, a young January Jones.
The considerably older Neeson, a seasoned actor unfortunately cast in a movie one might rent from a Redbox when there is absolutely nothing better, gets in an accident that a hipster taxi driver, played by Diane Kruger, is responsible for.
The storyline seems as though it was made up as the film went along. It feels like the screenwriters thought of the ending of the film, then considered an intriguing route to lead to that ending, instead of the other way around.
The action shots are well-funded, but I sat waiting for this film that had more style than intrigue to just end.
