IU baseball players earn All-Big Ten honors

The IU baseball team was nicely represented Wednesday when the Big Ten announced its postseason awards and all-conference designations.

Junior Alex Dickerson and freshman Joey DeNato each were named First Team All-Big Ten. Sophomore Micah Johnson earned Third Team honors, and DeNato and fellow freshman Dustin DeMuth were selected to the conference's All-Freshman squad.

Senior Brian Lambert also was recognized, garnering a Big Ten Sportmanship Award.

Dickerson led the Hoosiers in batting average, home runs and RBI, ranking in the top five in the Big Ten in each category. He notched the 47th homer of his career last weekend at Illinois to tie for IU's all-time record.

DeNato went 7-3 with a 2.80 ERA in 64 1/3 innings pitched and nine starts on the mound. His 12 pickoffs led a Big Ten-high 29 such put-outs by the Hoosiers.

Johnson hit .335 and led IU with 19 stolen bases. DeMuth led the Hoosiers with 85 hits during his freshman season.
