Rep. Todd Young, R-9th District, spent two weeks holding town hall forums in southern Indiana to address citizens’ concerns with the proposed federal budget.
Young met with constituents in Seymour, Ind., on Wednesday, in Jasper, Ind., on Tuesday, in Versailles, Ind., on Apr. 20 and in Sellersburg, Ind., on Apr. 18.
Trevor Foughty, Young’s communications director, said he was surprised by how perceptive people were to the U.S. House of Representative’s need to make serious cuts to the federal budget.
“You never know when you talk about touching social security and Medicare,” Foughty said. “People understood what the stakes are.”
Foughty also said people who attended the forums were concerned about gas prices.
He said the House of Representatives will be dealing with the cost of oil and reducing U.S. dependence on it during the summer.
“We really need to start getting serious about getting off foreign oil,” he said.
Young does not currently have any future planned town hall events, but Foughty said he will likely hold more when Congress is out of session.
