A 10-year-old male was arrested and sent to a juvenile detention center after he beat up a 12-year-old male Sunday.
Police were notified at about 9:45 p.m. Sunday when the 12-year-old went to the emergency room.
The two boys and several other friends were playing basketball all day behind a church on West 11th Street, said Bloomington Police Department Sgt. Jeff Canada said.
The victim told police a 12-year-old girl showed up and the 10-year-old boy started playing aggressively. He started pushing, shoving and swearing, and the 12-year-old boy asked him to stop playing so hard.
The 10-year-old told police he warned the older boy to be quiet or he’d push him. The younger boy was bigger than the other and tackled the older boy and started punching him, Canada said.
The victim said the 10-year-old sat on him and then the 12-year-old scratched the younger boy’s face and he started crying.
The 12-year-old said after he was able to get up he started walking away into the woods, and the suspect threw pieces of a cinder block at the back of his head and legs.
He then followed him into the woods and beat him with a stick until he was unconscious. He had injuries to his head, legs and knees and a swollen eye.
When the 12-year-old boy woke up, everyone, including the suspect, was gone.
