RPS to offer parking waitlist for students returning to dorms

Returning students living in the residence halls next year have the opportunity to sign up for a parking waitlist with Residential Programs and Services to qualify for parking permits zoned in lots near the residence halls.

In this waitlist, spaces are not determined on a first-come, first-served basis, said Andy Tellas, manager of Residential Parking Services.

“Spots are based on your housing priority date,” Tellas said. “This is when you originally signed up for housing. Therefore, this rewards students that have been living in the residence halls all four years.”

Rather than a waitlist, this list is just a pool of names for students interested in obtaining a parking permit, Tellas said.

Permits are available for all seven D zones, except D2 and D3, which are for the University-owned apartments that don’t have a parking waitlist.

“There are roughly just under 3,000 spaces available,” Tellas said.

There is no deadline for registering for parking, but if students are interested in reserving a spot for fall 2011, they should register by late July, Tellas said.

Students must live in the residence halls to register for this waitlist.

All registrants will be notified August 7 as to which permits will be offered.
