Feedback: Disgusted by an angry god

After reading the letter to the editor in the Indiana Daily Student titled “In the hands of an angry God,” written by Cole Tutino, I had to sit back and shake my head in disbelief.

Although I am quite aware there are many who still believe in primitive superstitions, I often forget the fact since I generally interact with educated, intelligent people.

Hundreds of thousands of civilians slaughtered in Iraq and Afghanistan, thousands dead in Japan, hundreds of thousands dead in Haiti, the list goes on endlessly.

Throughout all of this, we find people proclaiming their vicious God only allows these things to happen because we are disobeying him.

A God of perfect and total love who relishes sending plagues, natural disasters and human horrors upon his loved ones because they need to be spanked for being disobedient.

Rather than adhering to the malevolence of such a “God,” we should celebrate our innate humanness and compassion and accept life as it comes to us.

Yes, there is still something wrong with the human race. We must eradicate the imagery of angry gods that continues to violate us.
