Republican mayoral candidates unseen for now

Despite the Bloomington Democratic mayoral primary campaigns, which are already heating up, the Republican Party still hasn’t announced any candidates for the position.

Several potential candidates have been approached for mayor and city council positions, said Les Compton, chairman of the Monroe County Republican Party.

Compton said none of these potential candidates have notified the party of their intent to run at this time.

He said the Monroe County Republican Party anticipates being able to announce candidates for mayor and city council in the coming months and that they do intend to have candidates in the Nov. 8 municipal election.

Incumbent Mayor Mark Kruzan and challenger John Hamilton are the currently announced Democratic Party candidates for Bloomington mayor.
