Fire department, IUPD respond to car fire

At about 1:20 a.m. Sunday, the IU Police Department and Bloomington Fire Department responded to a 911 call from someone who saw a car on fire in front of Collins Living-Learning Center.

When the fire department and IUPD arrived on scene, flames and smoke were coming from a tan-colored Dodge Stratus parked in front of Collins on North Woodlawn Avenue, IUPD Sgt. Andy Stephenson said.

The fire was immediately put out and Woodlawn Avenue was blocked off between Ninth and 10th streets.

There were no fatalities or injuries reported in the incident, Stephenson said. There is no suspected foul play involved.

Stephenson said they suspect it was an electrical fire that started in the motor.
However, the car will be towed and the fire eepartment will conduct further investigations of possible causes.
