The Bloomington Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. will sponsor a discussion based on the movie “For Colored Girls” on Wednesday.
The movie is based on the play by Ntozake Shange, “For Colored Girls, Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is Enuf.” The original play is based on a collection of 20 poems which focus on the lives of seven women.
“Each poem deals with intense issues that impact women of color,” according to a statement from the sorority’s press release.
The chapter’s Arts & Letters Committee will provide a panel of experts who will expand on the issues portrayed in the lives of the women presented in the movie. The discussion will focus on issues such as spirituality, culture, self worth and physical and mental wellness.
Wednesday is also World Aids Day, which will correspond with some of the issues presented in the movie. The event will take place at 7 p.m. at the Monroe County Public Library in 1C.
