What’s great about members of The Avett Brothers is that they can play their songs live the exact same way they sound on the album and yet maintain their freshness.
On its third live album, aptly titled “Live: Volume 3,” the band plays cuts from each of their studio albums. The material is played with an astounding amount of musical energy, as if the band is playing for their lives.
The Avett Brothers’ live show basically has no gimmicks. They are there to sing their songs. Period.
That is what’s so compelling about the performance. It’s just guitar, drums and singing. Anyone whose a fan of fundamental pop-song structure can appreciate the songs.
There is evidence of the early Beatles and the Everly Brothers in the band’s songwriting style, the pitch-perfect harmonies in particular. The live recreation of those harmonies heard in recordings just goes to show the listener that this band has true talent and shows a type of professional musical craftmanship that sometimes seems to lack in popular music today.
Live is good for Avett Brothers
