Though the 22nd annual National Hispanic Heritage Month celebration ended last Friday, the message it tries to spread still lasts, IU’s Latino Cultural Center Director Lillian Casillas said.
Casillas said the month-long celebration of Hispanic and Latino cultural traditions has been a big success this year.
“We actually had really good support this year,” Casillas said, “I think it is partly because we did less, so we didn’t spread ourselves too thin.”
La Casa is currently working on its November events, including the Day of the Dead, a holiday celebrated by Mexicans and Mexican-Americans to honor lost family members and friends. There will also be programs discussing immigration topics as the midterm elections on Nov. 2 approach.
Casillas said she hopes Bloomington residents pay attention to Latino issues in the U.S. and attend La Casa events.
