Guest column: Concerning student voting

Citizens wanting to deny students the right to vote locally in Bloomington has become a contentious issue within the Bloomington community.

Students at IU spend nine months out of their year in Bloomington, some even more if they are here for the summer.

The student contribution to the Bloomington community is heavily seen across the city through service, active engagement in politics and in many components that the University makes through partnerships and collaborative programs.

The impact of students on the community is embodied in Mayor Mark Kruzan. Mayor Kruzan was once an IU student and the president of the IU Student Association. He epitomizes the value of student engagement in Bloomington politics.

With the upcoming election, it is vital that all citizens, whether a student or not, make sound decisions on the individuals they choose to support and vote for when they cast their vote on Nov. 2.

Thank you.
