With an album title like “The Sound of Sunshine,” you should know exactly what you’re getting into. Michael Franti and his band have opted for upbeat fun-in-the-sun music on their latest record. Unlike Franti’s previous material, you won’t find any political undertones on this album,
The first single, also called “The Sound of Sunshine,” makes Jack Johnson sound depressing. The same goes for most of the songs. They all have these uplifting messages such as, “I’m so glad to be alive”, which sometimes gets a little over the top if you like your music dark and creepy.
Oh, and if you listen and think, “Why is this white guy singing with a Jamaican accent?” Well, I did some research and umm ... I don’t know why he sings like that. However, I did find out that he never wears shoes.
Overall, it’s a decent album with some nice happy songs you and your grandmother can enjoy together. Why it wasn’t released at the beginning of the summer is beyond me.
Sunny side up
