City of Bloomington to commemorate 9/11 tragedies

The City of Bloomington will have a ceremony to commemorate the tragedies of 9/11 at 9 a.m. on Sept. 10 at the Showers Plaza outside Bloomington City Hall at 401 N. Morton St.

The event will be in recognition of the commitment and sacrifices made by public safety officers in Bloomington and across the nation.

It will include speeches from Mayor Mark Kruzan, State Representative Peggy Welch, Indiana U.S. Representative Baron Hill and State Senator Vi Simpson.

The ceremony will also include the presentation of the colors, and the playing of “Taps” by the Monroe County Honor Guard and “Amazing Grace” by the Bloomington Metropolitan Firefighters Pipes & Drums.

“This ceremony is an important opportunity to recognize the bravery of those who lost their lives in the attacks of 9/11 and a chance to thank the many emergency service personnel who sacrifice daily to keep us safe, here in Bloomington and across the nation,” Kruzan said in a City of Bloomington press release. “I encourage the community to come share this very special commemoration with us.”

The ceremony is open to the public and seating will begin at 8:30 a.m.
