An Indianapolis man was arrested after waving a handgun in the midst of a crowd outside of Night Moves, 1730 S. Walnut, early Monday morning.
According to BPD reports, officer Ian Lovan was flagged down on South Walnut Street by someone along the street, where he was then directed to the parking lot of Night Moves, an exotic dance club. There he saw John Lyell, 30, standing in the lot with something dark in his hand.
As Lovan approached, Lyell started walking away towards the corner of the building and ignored the officer’s requests for him to stop and show his hands.
When Lyell reached the corner, he threw the object away from him and still ignored Lovan’s requests to stop walking and show his hands. He was then physically taken to the ground and handcuffed after a struggle.
Witnesses said Lyell had gotten into a disagreement with another person in the parking lot. He then went to his car and brought back a handgun and cocked it.
The gun found was a fully loaded Hi-Point 40-caliber handgun. Lyell also had 14 pills in a plastic bag in his pocket, which were a mix of Loratab and Dilaudid, both prescription pain killers. He had no prescription for these pills.
Lyell faces preliminary charges of carrying a handgun without a license, possession of a controlled substance, resisting law enforcement and public intoxication.
