Sir Nigel Sheinwald, the United Kingdom’s ambassador to the United States, will be on campus today to lecture and meet with faculty, students and University officials.
His free lecture is “The 21st Century World: Europe’s Role” and will be 6 p.m. in the Tudor Room of the Indiana Memorial Union.
Prior to the lecture, Sheinwald will have lunch with IU President Michael McRobbie and faculty and then meet with students from the Hutton Honors College, the Wells Scholars program and the Political and Civic Engagement program.
As ambassador, Sheinwald has a strong interest in higher education and meets with leaders of American universities.
Sheinwald has been the ambassador to the U.S. since October 2007 and was the foreign policy and defense adviser to Prime Minister Tony Blair for four years. He also is a representative to the European Union.
IU has connections with several universities in the United Kingdom, and it is the second most popular destination for IU students to study abroad.
On Friday, Sheinwald will meet with Indiana elected officials in Indianapolis.
