Local library program supports children’s literacy

The Friends of the Library launched a Campaign for Excellence in efforts to raise $25,000, all of which will go toward children’s programs.

The money will help sustain reading programs, support children’s literacy and update the library’s children’s collection, according to a press release from the Monroe County Public Library.

The library’s business is increasing, the release said, stating that “a record-setting 2.6 million books circulated in 2009 and there were 1.4 million visits,” but that doesn’t increase the library’s funding.
