Suspect in sexual assault case, an IU student, arrested at Indy airport

IU Police Department officers arrested IU-Bloomington sophomore Howie Yu, 19, Friday on the charge of Criminal Confinement, a class D Felony, in connection with Thursday's alleged sexual assault near Foster Quad.

Indianapolis Airport Police detained Yu at approximately 1:30 p.m. and IUPD officers made the arrest at 2:40 p.m. Friday. They escorted Yu to the Monroe County Jail.

Yu, a graduate of Ward Melville Senior High School on Long Island, N.Y., is the Foster Residence Center representative to the IU Student Association Congress.

IUPD officers found an unconscious, partially clothed female on the north side of Foster Magee at 3:27 a.m. Thursday.

The woman was transported and admitted to Bloomington Hospital, according to an IUPD press release.

IUPD Lt. Craig Munroe said the woman is an IU student.

The woman told officers she was sexually assaulted but was unable to provide the location or identity of the suspect.

This case is still under investigation and anyone who has information regarding this incident is asked to contact IUPD at 812-855-4111.
