Nobel Laureate de Klerk to speak in Greencastle

GREENCASTLE, Ind. — Former South African President F.W. de Klerk will visit DePauw University in Greencastle on May 7, becoming the seventh Nobel Laureate to deliver the school’s Ubben Lecture at DePauw.

De Klerk shared the Nobel Peace Prize with Nelson Mandela for their efforts to end apartheid. His DePauw visit will mark the 20th anniversary of the end of that nation’s racial segregation policy.

Previous Nobel laureates who’ve spoken at DePauw include former President Mikhail Gorbachev of the Soviet Union, former Israeli Prime Minister Shimon Peres, former West German chancellor Willy Brandt and author and Holocaust survivor Elie Weisel.

The May 7 lecture is free and the public is invited.
