A homeless man was found sleeping in the IU Musical Arts Center on Thursday. IUPD Officer Deborah Delay responded to the call at 1 p.m. Upon arrival Delay witnessed a man sleeping in a chair in the practice room.
“He was wearing five layers of clothing and appeared to have not showered in several days,” Lt. Craig Munroe said reading from a police report.
The man was able to produce a driver’s license and was asked if he was a current student.
“I have not been a student for a long time,” the man said. When asked what he was doing in the University-owned building, he replied he was practicing. When Delay asked what he was practicing, “he made a gesture with his hands as if he playing the horn,” Munroe said.
The individual was advised of trespass. He was previously advised of trespass in the Herman B Wells Library in 2009.
“Advised of trespass is not an arrest,” Munroe said. “However, if advised of trespass occurs subsequent the first, an arrest may ensue.”
