Heartbreaking tranquility

Leaving the listener in a tranquil dreamy state, Phantogram’s “Eyelid Movies” mixes rough electronic beats with heartbreaking melodies. An ambient dreamy feel throughout the album is amplified by the fact that almost every track is the same tempo.

Although this album isn’t too remarkable, the transitions from song to song are very smooth, keeping the listener from switching albums. This album is not only listenable but interestingly calming. The simple chord progressions and background guitar work to allow the listener to focus on the more important aspects of the music.

Phantogram, on this album more than on others, seems to be experimenting with the possibilities and expanse of their sound. The multi-layered melodic vocals add a dimension to the music which is grounded by electronic beats. The fusion of these two distinct sounds leads to a beautiful and well-composed album.
