Genuinely great

jfisd;a

Allow me to first remark that it is wonderful that a band like the Carolina Chocolate Drops still exists and can be signed on to a prestigious record label like Nonesuch Records, who also housed the likes of Wilco, Bjork and The Black Keys.

This old-time southern Carolina bluegrass band isn’t something that would normally find its way into my ears, but the musicianship and value of this album is so great.

Although this style of music is one of the ancestors of our music today, the influences and styles of the band are more modern and this shows interestingly through their music.

Though using traditional instruments, such as the fiddle, banjo, harmonica, bones, kazoo and jug, there are clear influences of modern music. Even Carolina Chocolate’s cover of early 2000s star Blu Cantrell’s “Hit ’Em Up Style” is simply amazing. I hope this album will find its way to you.
