No leap of imagination for ‘Leap Year’

Leap Year

Star power keeps “Leap Year” from being a complete failure. Honestly, I’m fine to sit for two hours and watch Matthew Goode strut around in sexy sweaters – which is lucky since there’s not much else happening here.

Anna (Amy Adams) travels to Dublin to take advantage of an old Irish tradition that says a woman can propose to her boyfriend on Leap Day, Feb. 29. While on her way to said boyfriend, she meets Declan (Goode) and starts having second thoughts.

I’m not sure why two talented, mature actors who cut their thespian’s teeth on dopey romance movies would return to the genre after years of making serious, Oscar-contending films, but they do.

This movie hits every cliche that could possibly be used to bring two characters together. There’s the transportation breakdown that compels them to band together on a cross-country journey. There’s the wedding party that both spontaneously attend. And at one point, the two even have to pretend to be married and wind up in the same bed.
You know how this will end.
