Lawyer in Behrman case faces disciplinary hearing

INDIANAPOLIS - The lawyer who defended the man convicted in the 2000 slaying of 19-year-old Indiana University student Jill Behrman faces possible disciplinary action related to the case.

The state Disciplinary Commission alleges that Indianapolis attorney Patrick Baker improperly solicited John Myers as a client during a jail visit. Baker did not charge a fee.

The complaint also alleges that Baker improperly asked Myers' family to pay copying and binding costs for an appellate brief when they legally could be charged to the government.

Myers is serving a 65-year sentence.

A court spokesman say a hearing on the complaint against Baker had been set for this month but is being rescheduled.

Neither Baker nor his attorney Jim Voyles returned phone calls seeking comment Monday.
