General Assembly bill to limit property tax passes Indiana House

INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana House advanced legislation aimed at putting limits on property tax bills into the state constitution.

The Democrat-controlled chamber rejected changes to the measure on Thursday, making it eligible for passage as early as next week. If the same legislation passes both the House and Senate, voters would decide in November whether to amend the caps into the constitution.

Three Democrats proposed changes to the bill, but one amendment was withdrawn and the other two were voted down. Proponents of constitutional caps said any changes could have derailed a three-year effort to put the legislation before voters.
