Trustrees extend McRobbie's contract through 2017

The IU board of trustees authorized a five year extension to President Michael McRobbie’s contract Friday at the IU-Purdue University Indianapolis campus.

IU spokesman Larry MacIntyre said board member Steve Ferguson made the motion for the extension during the new business segment of the meeting. MacIntyre said the motion authorized board of trustees President Dr. William Cast to draft a new contract extending McRobbie’s current contract by five years.

MacIntyre said Ferguson mentioned that a number of other universities were looking for new presidents and IU needed to keep McRobbie. The motion was passed unanimously by the board of trustees, he said.

“The contract has not formally been written, but McRobbie’s contract will be extended,” he said.

McRobbie’s current contract was written in 2007 and would last five years ending on June 30, 2012, MacIntyre said. Once drafted and signed, McRobbie’s new contract will end on June 30, 2017, he said.

MacIntyre said as of right now the only thing that has been discussed is the five year extension. Other parts of the contract, like McRobbie’s salary, have not yet been discussed. McRobbie’s current salary is $425,000 a year.

McRobbie will be traveling with Elinor Ostrom to Stockholm, Sweden, and will not be able to sit down and discuss the contract in full, MacIntyre said.

“We do not know how long he will be traveling, but when he gets back the new contract will be worked out,” he said.
