Southern Ind. city set to have complete power outage

LINTON, Ind. – Officials of a southern Indiana city are warning residents to be ready for a citywide power outage this weekend.

The outage in Linton is scheduled to last from midnight to 8 a.m. Sunday so that Duke Energy crews can do maintenance work and replace switches.

Mayor Tom Jones said he hopes the work will be completed without having to use the full eight-hour period.

City Electric Department Supervisor Nick House said the outage period was picked for a day and time when it would cause the least inconvenience for the nearly 6,000 residents of the city about 30 miles south of Terre Haute.

House said the city’s hospital and two nursing homes have backup generators. The Police Department plans extra patrols during the outage.
