MOUNT ETNA, Ind. – Authorities in northern Indiana said an 8-year-old boy was seriously wounded in the chest while deer hunting with his father.
Jacob Weaver of Greentown was listed in serious but stable condition at Fort Wayne’s Parkview Hospital, where he was taken after the shooting Saturday near the Huntington County community of Mount Etna.
Sheriff’s Capt. David McElhaney said Jacob and his father were in a tree stand at about 7:30 a.m. when the boy’s foot bumped a shotgun, which slid to the floor and fired.
Police ruled the shooting an accident and said no charges would be filed.
