Creepy – kind of

4th

Scientist J. Allen Hynek identified four kinds of UFO encounters.

The first is a UFO sighting, the second is physical evidence of a UFO, the third is contact with a UFO occupant and the fourth is abduction.

In “The Fourth Kind,” Milla Jovovich plays Dr. Abigail Tyler, a psychologist who begins videotaping sessions with patients who are supposedly being visited and experimented on by extra-terrestrial beings.

Director Olatunde Osunsanmi uses fictional narrative format along with misleadingly labeled “archival” footage, often side-by-side, involving identical action involving the “real-life” Abigail Tyler. Tyler also appears in the film being interviewed by Osunsanmi.

Safe to say, it’s convoluted.

The film occasionally succeeds at spine-tingling terror, but it fails in other aspects. The narrative involving actors is unnecessary and fails to invoke much fear, but some of the “real” footage is terrifying.

“Kind” does produce a few moments of pure terror, but the poor, uninspired acting fails to impress.
