Solar tour to take place in Bloomington, Monroe County

Southern Indiana Renewable Energy Network and Indiana Renewable Energy Association are sponsoring a tour of solar energy systems Saturday in Bloomington and Monroe County.

The tour is part of the 14th annual ASES National Solar Tour, according to a press release.

They are expecting more than 150,000 people in the community to participate.

The tour will showcase homes and businesses that are working to reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. Participants will be able to talk with homeowners and business owners, see an educational presentation and see energy from the sun utilized in active and passive systems to heat water, air and generate electricity, according to the release. They will also be able to enter a drawing to win an energy monitor.

The tour is self-guided and will be 12-4 p.m. Those involved with the tour will be able to enter a raffle to win an energy monitor. All of the sites on the tour will be marked with yard signs.
