Internet connection down Tuesday afternoon

Internet connectivity on the IU-Bloomington campus was interrupted Tuesday after the core router and backup systems both failed, said Dennis Cromwell, associate vice president for enterprise infrastructure.

Many departments lost connectivity at about 2:30 p.m., and connectivity was restored as of 5 p.m.

He said experts weren’t sure what the problem was at first but began fixing “symptoms” as soon as the router went down.

He added that administrators would monitor the routers Tuesday, but that computers across campus should have normal Internet access.

The problems began when “the core router and its backup started experiencing big problems,” Cromwell said during the outage.

The outages did not affect users accessing IU systems from off campus. Services like OnCourse and OneStart were not interrupted, and other IU campuses around the state were unaffected.
