‘Angel’ fails to fly

mc

Mariah Carey’s new album “Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel” attempts to empower females, but ends up alienating both men and women.

With a plethora of anthems that resemble the single, “Obsessed,” Carey over simplifies male and female relationships by depicting men as stalkers and love interests and women as catty characters from “Mean Girls.”

Here Carey loses her voice, literally. It seems as though the music is no longer about her wide vocal range, but rather a shift toward conforming to the current pop chart standards of synthesizing beats, sound mixing and simplified messages for the global masses.

The album is far too long and lacks a central theme. It merely consists of inauthentic and contrived songs about a false sense of love and multitude of high school-esque issues.

“Angel” is a very childish venture for Carey, who at 39 years old may be a pop diva, but has seemingly become even more immature over the years.
