Songz for the bedroom

treyz

Trey Songz may need a girl, but it’s safe to say he doesn’t need much else on his third album “Ready.”

He sets the tone with the intro “Panty Droppa.” For most of the album Songz channels his inner R. Kelly in making tunes mostly fit for the bed sheets.

However, he does step outside of that norm with the album’s first single “I Need A Girl” and the catchy “LOL:-)” featuring Gucci Mane and Soulja Boy.

The second single “Successful” features budding rap star Drake and was edited to differentiate it from the version that appears on Drake’s mixtape, “So Far Gone.”

“Yo Side Of The Bed” is Songz’s best singing performance on the album and the sound features a hint of a Prince’s “Purple Rain.”

“Ready” is easily Songz’s best album to date. His consistent vocals and relatable lyrics are what make it one of the most promising R&B albums of the year, and is another step toward pushing Songz from middle of the pack to being mentioned among R&B giants like Usher and Chris Brown.

So, Trey Songz may be ready for love, but is he ready to get over the hill into the upper echelon of the R&B game? Stay tuned.
