The Indiana State Police Department is warning Hoosiers to avoid a scam that has been noticed in the area, according to their press release.
A man described as a 20-year-old white male, 5'8'' with slender build was last seen wearing a baseball hat in Ripley County as he approached an elderly woman at her residence, according to the release. He said he was doing tree trimming for a neighbor and wanted the woman to show him the property line so he wouldn't accidentally cut any of her trees.
While they were in the backyard, an accomplice entered the house and stole jewelry and money, according to the release.
Police are encouraging residents to lock their doors and windows if approached by the suspect and to try to get a description and license plate number of the suspect's vehicle.
