The last thing someone would think when hearing Phish’s newest album is that the jam band has been inactive for five years.
The 2004 breakup was hard on fans, but diehard Phishheads will be consoled with the brilliant display of lyricism and feel-good beats on their new album, “Joy.”
The tracks featured in “Joy” have the same kinds of sounds as in their previous work: deeply infused with 1960s rock influences but with Caribbean and folk manipulations.
Take the songs “Sugar Shack” and “Stealing Time from the Faulty Plan.”
By adding reggae-esque tones and sick-nasty guitar solos, it is impossible not to unleash the laid-back hippie clawing to get out in all of us when listening.
The lyrics in the album are solid and poetic, especially in the song “Joy,” which pays homage to all who have supported the band in their past, as well as to newbies of Phish.
Without a doubt, the band made a comeback with “Joy.”
But then again, were they ever really gone?
No need to Phish for fans
