Kosciusko County workers protest large pay cuts

WARSAW, Ind. – Kosciusko County employees are letting county leaders know they’re unhappy about the decision to cut their pay by 7 percent to help close a $3.5 million budget deficit.

They packed a county commissioners meeting Tuesday to complain, but it wasn’t the commissioners who made the decision. The separate Kosciusko County Council is in charge of finances and voted unanimously last week to cut pay.

County Council President Harold Jones said the pay cut for 275 county workers won’t balance the budget, but it will help.

Jones said the council will consider any recommendations from the commissioners to cut areas instead of pay.

Under the pay cut, someone earning $30,000 per year will earn about $2,100 less.
